Marketing Update

Posted by: Tony Wright
We have been very busy with our first book apearance and also working to have God Sent Tommy available in local bookstores. Helen attends Pleasant Plains Baptist Church in Matthews, North Carolina. The pastor Ron Riddley allowed Debby to speak on Helens behalf concerning why we feel that God Sent Tommy needs to be read. She did an outstanding job presenting information about Tommy's life to the congregation.

I have been informed that there has been a lot of request to purchase the book in local book stores in the Charlotte area as well as Greenville, South Carolina and the city of Hendersonville, North Carolina. I would like to let everyone know that we now have the book available at Barnes and Noble located at Carolina Place Mall in Pineville. We are also working on the New Creation Christian Store in Matthews located near HWY 74 and Hwy 51. In addition to these we believe that Barnes and Noble locations at 4020 Sharon Road and the Arboretum Shopping Center will also stock the book soon. We have selected two locations so far in Hendersonville to carry the book, they are the Open Door and Walden Books in the Blue Ridge Mall. We will also be contacting Barnes and Noble and Books A. Million in Ashville. Please let me know of any additional bookstores you would suggest stocking God Sent Tommy.

Helen wishes to thank you all for supporting her through the purchasing and reading of the book and continues to ask that you spread the word about the book to your friends and family. She hopes that the strong Faith message that was Tommys life will touch others and bring about a new understanding of how God can work in our lives. Thank you for your support.

WOW Great service from Barnes and Noble

Just to bring you up to date. I ordered the new book "God Sent Tommy" at 10:30pm Monday night from the Barnes and Noble on-line bookstore. It arrived today at 6pm via UPS. This was better service than I thought possible. The shipping plan was a two to three day delivery which cost the same as standard delivery. Barnes and Noble has discounted the price so that with shipping added back in the retail price of the book is approximately what I paid. I am very pleased with the service. If Amazon discounts the book price any time soon I will order a book from them to compare the service. Please let me know if anyone has any POD questions

I have ordered what I believe is the first book to be purchased from Barnes and Noble on Monday. It is shipping via UPS and is scheduled to arrive today. The print on demand feature of this book allows retailers to ship from the printer which is located in Nashville Tennessee. This is exciting for all involved in the entire publishing process. With this POD system book publishers do not need to print and store books in warehouses to meet the demand. I will followup tonight on the arrival. Helen has agreed to sign my copy as book #1. She will be recieving her copies from Wheatmark any day.

God Sent Tommy is now on sale at Amazon.com. The sale page has been partially developed but does not show the book cover. You can access the Amazon sales page by clicking on the Title of this post or by clicking the Amazon link in "my favorite links" found on the lower right side of the blog.

Letter from a Friend

Post by Tony Wright - Letter from Dr. Strickland
I would like to share another letter from one of Tommy's friends. The letter speaks for itself. He truly was a great man on a mission.

My Friend Tommy Owen,
I had the distinct honor of not only being able to call Tommy Owen my patient, but I was able to also call him my friend. Oftentimes his quite nature made it seem like Tommy was timid, but nothing could be further than the truth. His courageous battle with a ravaging illness never once stopped him from being a model father, a consummate professional in his field and more of a man than virtually anyone I’ve ever known. He didn’t complain or allow his health issues to keep him from being one of Hendersonville’s most heroic citizens.

His kind and often calming voice was what was heard when a call was placed to the Police Station. As a dispatcher I cannot think of a more pleasant yet powerful voice to fill that role. Pleasant because Tommy was always polite and gentle to those he communicated with but at the same time powerful because he had the God-given gift of being able to soothe simply by saying “How can I help you?”

Tommy Owen was a man of virtue and morals. He touched the lives of everyone he met and who knew him. It has been said that to touch the life of just one person for the better makes one’s character complete. If that is indeed true, Tommy was a man of unparallel character because he touched too many lives to name. In true Tommy fashion, he would never give himself kudos even though he certainly deserved it. That is but one of many things that made him a hero in my eyes as well as the eyes of so many. If there were more people like him, we would live in a world of great integrity and honor. He was truly a great, great man and my life was blessed for having known him.

The book has completed the layout stage

Post by Tony Wright
We recieved the final book cover design and the interior layout of the book yesterday. We reviewed the book one more time and made just a few corrections. Now we will be working on other activities such as marketing plans, contacting potential book review candidates and other items to prepare for the book release.

Our publisher Wheatmark has made the entire experience one that we can celebrate. Everyone that has touched this project has added a part of themselves to the book. We could have never achieved such professional quality without them.

I would like to post a link for all you die hard bloggers to have fun with. Check this out.

Post by Tony Wright:
I mentioned earlier that Helen had contacted friends of Tommy's that they had known from work or just being neighbors in the community. She asked them for either their thoughts about Tommy or maybe a short story they could share. I would like to share two that have meant a lot to Helen. She would like to express her love and gratitude for providing the following by two of Tommy's close friends.

Quote:
Tom Owen was one man in several million. His physical strength was limited, but his inner strength was as great as anyone I have known. He was an inspiration to me personally and to my entire police department. I loved him for the man he was.

Dear Helen,
What a great idea to write a book about Tom. Tom was my great friend who had a great sense of humor and never tired of teasing me, mostly because I came from Chicago. We argued back and forth every time I came into the station, but when I had something to seriously talk to him about he was always ready to advise and help me through any situation. What would amaze me is that what ever the problem that arouse, Tom knew someone who could help us, he seemed to know everyone. It truly was a sad day when he left the department and we knew he couldn’t be replaced. I always will have the utmost respect for Tom, his courage, faith and dedication and I know everyone who knew him felt the same way.
I miss Tom and wish I could speak to him once more, to tell him how much I love and admire him, but then, he knows!

Posting the Book Cover (Draft)

Posted by Tony Wright,
What excitement it is seeing the new book cover design for the first time. Kat has really come through for us. I have placed the image of the cover to the lower right side of this blog page for your review and comments.

We hope that this design will draw attention to the real person that Tommy was and that even though he had many physical problems brought on with his two cases of polio that his life meant so much to so many. He truly was a great person and a Godly man. One of his great strengths was helping others and not wanting anyone to thank him or even know the good deed was done. I personally grew stronger in my faith just knowing what God meant to him. We are moving closer to Helens dream being fullfilled in the publishing of Tommy's story. I am so thankfull that I have the chance to be a part of this great family event. Helen's wish is that this book will draw others closer to God and that their struggles, whatever they are can be overcome. Let us take the journey together.

Getting Closer

We are very excited and looking forward to seeing the book cover design due out soon. We have worked on the picture captions for the interior of the book which was one of the last few items remaining in the development of the finished book layout. Once the book cover is chosen the book layout proof will be sent into us for final blessing. Once all this has been reviewed and blessed its off to the printer for final preparation. This last phase takes 4 to 6 weeks to complete. Hopefully we will be able to take pre-orders for Christmas Gifts! I will keep posting our progress on a regular basis. Please return to this sight and feel free to add comments. (posted by Tony Wright)

Posted by Tony Wright, After reviewing current trends in the book publishing market we have decided to offer the book "God Sent Tommy" in the Amazon Kindle book format. We believe that this will reach a growing market of readers that like the convience and the lower cost of e-books. Please visit the Wheatmark Blog to find out more information. http://www.wheatmark.com/blog/

Posting by Tony Wright. Helen is actively recruiting help from friends in Hendersonville NC and the surrounding area to provide her with additional short stories of events that happened at the police department, around town and when Tommy was younger. We invite anyone with information about Tommy to share it on this site. We would love to hear from you. Is anyone out there that knew Tommy when he attended Mars Hill College?

We have selected Wheatmark as our publisher. They have been so helpful with Helen and developing her first book. We have total faith that our account manager, Kat Gautreaux will make this book the very best it can be. She has been very easy to work with and is so willing to teach us the book business. Thanks to everyone at Wheatmark for your help!

Final Editing Complete

Posting by Tony Wright, Helen's business manager and Son-n-Law. Today I received word that the final editing is complete. We were able to quickly accept the editors suggestions and resubmit the book with the few updates required. Not bad for a first book. The next step is to receive and approve the book cover. Hopefully that will be completed within the next couple of weeks. The proof for the type set/layout of the book should be ready within four weeks. We believe the book will be ready to ship on or before December 18th. We are hoping that this timeline will allow for Christmas sales by promoting presales.
